5 In Retrospect

5 IN RETROSPECT OFFERS THE FOLLOWING ENTERTAINMENT AND VIEWING:
A SOLO RETROSPECTIVE SHOWING OF ARTIST IAIN BARNES AKA 5:
Artist 5, a transplant from Suffolk, England to a seasoned south Floridian, considers his art a mixture of Urban Street art, abstract, deconstruction, dysfunction, and existentialism, his five points of power so to speak. With most of his art he likes to incorporate and show the decay of materials as well as the experimental use of non-conventional materials such as concrete patch, motor oil, and drywall compound to name a few. “I like my work to look as if it were produced at an earlier date and over time with weather and age it becomes worn and battered with chipping paint and runny lines”, says 5. He feels art to be universal from the bleeding of rust into an old abandoned car to the print on a billboard, some are good representations, some are bad but all are art. As well as showing the elements 5 also caters to the research of HIV/AIDS and incorporates it into his work as well. "HIV/AIDS is no longer a death sentence like some cancers and other obscure disease, but it is a social disease which in some cases can be more detrimental then even the thought of death" says 5.

He has also performed at various venues during past Winter Music Conferences. OPEN BAR & DRINK TICKETS FOR: DONATIONS TO KIDS IN DISTRESS:

Our mission at Kids In Distress (KID) is to prevent child abuse, preserve the family, and treat children who have been abused and neglected. Recognized as a premier agency in South Florida, we provide family strengthening services as well as children's services for more than 6,000 children and their families. All of our programs and services are designed specifically to give children and their families the tools, skills, services, and education they need to maintain a safe, stable, and healthy environment in which to thrive.
Started in a small house in 1979 as an emergency shelter for the youngest victims of abuse and neglect, we have since expanded services and grown to a 5-acre campus in Broward County with a satellite office in Palm Beach County. We are also the largest provider of foster homes in both Broward and Palm Beach counties, many of which become adoptive homes for children who cannot be reunified with their biological families. We operate one of the only remaining emergency shelters for children ages birth to 15 years of age, and a family counseling center for counseling and therapy needs.
Along with our adoptive and shelter services, Kids In Distress allocates more than 60% of our agency budget toward programs that are community-based. We offer in-home, family strengthening programs that care for and educate pregnant women and new mothers, programs that assist families with issues of domestic violence, substance abuse, and extreme economic stress, and we provide assistance in accessing everything from food stamps and employment assistance to housing and legal assistance. More recently, we are now able to provide optical and dental care for children in our community who, in many cases, have never been to a dentist or optometrist.

ART RAFFLE BENEFITING: PROJECT SEBIS

Project Sebis is one of the philanthropies the "5 In Retrospect" event will be supporting on November 26th. We will be raffling off a work by Iain Barnes aka 5, which will benefit our little superhero. To give you a little more background on Sebastian here is his story:

I was brought in to the ER on July 25th, 2011 because I was having trouble breathing. I have asthma since I was 1 year old. After several breathing treatments in the ER and no change, an X-ray was done. Results came back abnormal, so a CT scan was done. Results determined that my right lung was full of fluid and a mass was present. Immediately I was transferred to the PICU. Chest tube was put in to drain my lung and they took some of the fluid and sent it to pathology. Hours later my family received the most horrible news on July 26th that I had cancer. I have T-Cell Lymphoma located in my chest. God willing it will shrink and gone very soon. For the next three years I will undergo chemo and god willing and with all of your prayers I will be cancer free. God is the strongest healer and with his help and all of your prayers I will be cured very soon. I am 6 year old with a full life ahead of me. I am filled with love and support. I love to draw and play. My life has completely changed and now my goal is to fight this bug inside of me. With all of your prayers and with taking my super hero medication I am going to win this battle!

LIVE ART BY BY SOME FOR SOUTH FLORIDA'S BETH ARTISTS:

KAZILLA

Kazilla aka Cassie Williams is a young artist who's style bounds between the street arts and fine arts. Originally from Santa Fe, NM she currently exhibits the breadth of her work in Miami, FL. After moving to the east coast her work has transcended the street arts and combined her two styles of fine art and graffiti to create an edgy, colorful clash of two very different worlds. The feminine figures, surreal landscapes and vibrant colors create a daunting visual feast for all audiences. She also works as a live artist, designer, muralist, photographer, producer, lyricist, singer and musician.

KATYA NEPTUNE

If I can get you to ponder the content, then I believe I've met my goal. My name is Katya Neptune and I like to make stuff. Katya Neptune

A well know south florida artist with a big heart Katya Neputne, founder of Art Heart and well as producing her own unique character work, is definantly making stuff.

ADELEA CAMILLA SUTTON

I am originally from Maryland, I moved away when I was 13, but I hope that I will be able to move back before the next cicada invasion, but I know I can never really go back, but I fool myself and entertain the idea... I've got this whole nostalgic melancholic stunted hurt thing going on that persists...
I paint, and while I love to paint different subjects, I keep getting lured backs to the sweets....which I really enjoy painting, but I also love landscapes, portraits, and other subjects....until I see a sweet that I just have to paint!!!!

Stealth Marketing

Marketing Firms pay billions of dollars to gather your attention and direct your personal spending. Why is it that "Marketing" and or "Sales" seem to think human beings are dumb animals focused like cattle on repetitive marketing produced by money. It almost sound like and old horror film the more the spirit say Kill the more the murderer wants to kill. On top of that, artists who repel this form of vandalism of public space are in turn considered vandals themselves, because the issue of money is not in question with art. Stealth Marketing is a very simple concept it is market to people "Wanting" to view your marketing. Thousands of people pass by stealth marketing on a daily basis. Only those interested in this form of art or the artist, find it attractive thus promoting the artist via marketing. It's not a concept of why we market. We market to promote our product, our art, etc., etc., etc. yet we try to do it in a way that markets to our audience and doesn't dismantle the image of public space. On the other hand the image of art in public space must change; Marketing has dominated public space for a long time based on money. Not human interest, not entertainment of the human soul, not beauty of the human eye....strictly money. Imagine a place where the public space is beautiful, colored and fun generating energy of positive and emotionally charged happiness. How would that change our world to date? CBS and Clear Channel do not need to own every billboard to be profitable.....peace.....5.....

Blue Flag Project: 2001

Blue Flag was a personal project I started with my boy aka FI LO LI  to bring some support to our troops during the wars that followed 9-11, at the same time the project, in my eyes was a middle finger to the current president. Because all and all, I believe him to be the underlining reason for the assault on New York. Still the same, I produced many Blue Flags across Broward county and to this day this memorial for our troops still stands in front of the US Armory on SR84 10 years later as a landmark. Peace and rest to our troops fallen or with us in distress, Not many of us know the issues developed by the images of war, nor can we fathom the conception of brutality visualized in war. I speak with many Vets who cannot even distinguish road kill form human form, with that mentality, we wonder why thousands of Americans decided to live outside society as homeless, either because of war driven mental illness or just plain disguise for a society that would create such a vacuum of death. Thanks Royroy for the help.....5.....And still up

"ACHATES" June 2010

"Achates" is the first peice I have produced useing my new process of development. Achates is not only an abstraction useing paint and stencils like before. It is a assemblage peice as well useing such found objects as golf balls, furniture fasteners, bottle caps, and misc. bolts and screws. It also incorporates a section of wheatpasted flyers and photos that have been layers and torn to represent age. The process begins with the use of 60 1.5"X36" strips of reclaimed wood turns upright and attached together showing the detailed textures and patterns of the ply wood and the prior used surfaces that bleed over into the plys. The stencils, wheatepaste and painting where then applied and the assemblage objects place upon completion. The title came from the term achates which means loyal friend. The work was commission by Sean and Melanie Cutler, Sean and I have been friends for the last 23 years and this peice represents that longevtiy and understanding of that friendship. I requested both Sean and Melanie to complete a 5 question questionaire that has 5 answers to each question. Questions such as which 5 symbols represent you best? Some of those answers were then incorporated into the peice. sections such as the flor de lis in the clock, and the faint images of celtic knobs surrounding the clock. In the wheatepasted face there are band flyers from when Sean played in several local Florida band, such as Num. Another interesting aspect to this process is the installation of these peices. They will be installed useing a steel track that runs above and below the peice. The peice will then be attached from the bottom and the top. In the future this will allow me to attache several peices together to form one large work 8'X8', 10'X10' or even larger. This new process incorporates alot more detail then the works prior and responce to the new work has been extremely good. Some have said they can't stop looking at it because they see neww elements each time and some just enjoy the mixture of techniques and the composition. Never the lease this new and exciting process with open new avenues of expression and communication in the near future while creating and great size to work with. Peace.....5.....

"Erratum" definded is an error in writing or printing. A book with a blank page, a news letter with several missing lines. In current day there are clearly defined instructions to how a person must scan a page to a computer to obtain the entire page. If done incorrectly parts of the page with be missing and the scan copy leaving it incomplete. What if some of the most prollific authors and stories of our time and before are missing the instructions and somehow left out a line or two, a page or two, or more. How would this effect our culture as humans? Would it change the direction of our society if we found out that some of our history as incomplete. You wonder what authors or stories could cause such a dramatic change if found false. Would the Declaration of independence being incomplete change things or even more universal the Bible. What kind of affect would this draw into our communities. Who made the rules? Who is wrong or right? Who says that fate is not the governor and those missing words or lines or pages were mean to be.

"Erratum" 24"X48" acrylic, aerosol, wood stain, and sticker applications on wood Sold to the Kyriakioles Family.

Good or Evil?????

For my very first blog I figured I would throw out some of my personal concepts on this life in which we all lead. I came across a friend of mines website http://www.okanom.com/ and noticed a brief interaction he calls “balancing of the shades” I really appreciated the concept and I wanted to expand on this a little with my own thoughts. Okulus Anomali states that there is no good or evil that is it a concept developed by man. Now for starts I could have a completely different view on the subject it’s just my expanse, two this expanse is mine it’s not political, religious or such so if you start to get upset you should probably take a step back and think about it more.

Are good and evil truly opposites or is one just more defined in our culture then the other? In history many thing have been set as evil do to the lack of knowledge on the subject then at a later date reborn as positive. Clearly by definitions good, or light or better defined then evil or dark by more then 60%. Why? Is it because it’s easier to swallow? Or is it because one has to put less mental work toward the conclusion? So clearly if this is the case then there may be some things classified as evil that may not be based on lack of information and there may be something classified as good that may have wrong information guiding it. There is a fine line between exploration and descending into the information that may be evil. Sometime this exploration or descending can cause more damage then bringing sometime new to light. But how would we know without this exploring? How far is to far if no one tests it, hell tee art was square till someone sailed it. Two cups are cups, less defined. One may be filled with poison and one with water but until tested they remain two cups no matter what there contains.
